Free Case of Water @ Target!

Starting tomorrow, there will be a deal for a FREE case of water at Target!

In order to get this water for free, you must purchase 2 beverage enhancers. You can purchase MIO liquid or Crystal Light liquid, to name a few. There are coupons for the Crystal Light currently!

Purchase:
1 24-pack Market Pantry water (usually $2.99, but it's your free item, must be Market Pantry)
2 Crystal Light liquid ($3)
= $6

Coupons:
(2) $1/1 Crystal light coupons, obtained here by sharing on Facebook.

Total
= $4 for 2 Crystal Light liquid water enhancers and a case of water!

Getting Started: Where Do I Get Coupons??

I realized as I went into elaborate detail on how to shop at Giant Eagle and Target, that I didn't cover a few basic things!

Where can I get all of these coupons?
  • Ask friends, family, and coworkers. Chances are, if they aren't using them, they are throwing them away.
  • Purchase the Sunday paper. Three or four Sunday papers may run you $8-10, but it will go a long way as far as savings! It is helpful when a great deal comes around to have 3 or 4 of the same coupon.
  • Print! It takes time and money to print coupons, but at the end of the month, many of them go away, and new ones appear. Remember, each computer (or iPad, or phone) can only print 2 of each coupon. There are plenty of places you can print coupons, such as:
  • Purchase inserts or clipped coupons online. You can order full inserts, or just a few coupons, depending on what your needs are. My favorites are:
Remember - you won't be able to purchase 10 packs of free toilet paper, or 12 bottles of cheap shampoo without 10 or 12 coupons! It's best to get a jump start on the deals by figuring out what you want a day or two before the sale starts, then ordering those coupons if you need to. If you purchase one Sunday paper each week that is great - but you'll be limited to printable coupons and the coupons in that one paper, unless you get more coupons somehow. :)

Another fantastic Target deal.. 8-packs of men's Dial soap for 37 cents each!

We all have a stinky man in our life who could use a little scrubbing! I took advantage of a Dial body wash for men deal recently, and it was $.02 per bottle! This deal is just as good, and it goes through July 12th!

At Target, the current deal is:
Buy 3 8-packs of men's Dial soap bars, get a $5 gift card!

The 8-packs of men's Dial soap are $3.04 regularly priced. Purchase 3 for a total of $9.12.
 - 3 of these coupons for $1/1 Dial or Dial For Men Bar Soap, www.coupons.com.
- $5 gift card
= Pay $6.12 out of pocket, plus $5 gift card = $1.12 spent! That's .37 per 8-pack of soap.

Note: Some stores have them for $3.99, not $3.04. If that's the case, you'll pay $3.97 for all three of them, which is like buying 1 and getting the next 2 8-packs free.

Target: Body wash, shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste deal!

Now that everyone has heard about how much I LOVE Target, I'll break down some of the best deals for you coming your way tomorrow!

This week, Target has some great items included in a "Buy 3, get a $5 Gift Card" deal. Here are the items and their corresponding coupons:

Some tips about this deal:
  • You can mix and match any of these items. You do not have to buy 3 of the same item. When your third item rings up, the register will prompt the cashier to issue a gift card. Be sure that the gift card issues. If it doesn't, you may have picked up an item that isn't included in the deal.
  • Items included in the deal should be clearly marked on the shelves. If not, you can scan the item at a price checker. If "special purchase" comes up on the screen, it is included in the deal.
  • To get it as close to free as possible, you will want to choose the cheapest items. For example, if you have 3 items that are marked $3.99, your total before the gift card will be $11.97. If you have 3 items at $5, your total before the gift card is $5.
  • That being said, don't always shoot for freebies! If you really need something such as shampoo, purchase what is best for YOU.
  • Most coupons exclude trial/travel size. Double check before trying to use it on a travel size item.

Here are some fun scenarios for you to try with this deal!

If you need deodorant..
(1) Secret Expressions deodorant and (2) Old Spice deodorant, $11.85
- $1.10/1 Secret Expressions coupon
- $1.50/2 Old Spice deodorant
- $5 gift card
= $9.25 out of pocket, plus $5 gift card = $4.25 = $1.42 each!

If you need toothpaste/mouth wash..
(1) Crest rinse and (2) Crest rinse or Crest 3D toothpaste @ $3.99 each = $11.97
- $1/1 Crest rinse (printable coupon) x 3
- $5 gift card
= $8.97 out of pocket, plus $5 gift card = $3.97 = $1.32 each. Like buying 1 and getting 2 free!

If you need shampoo/conditioner..
(2) Herbal Essences shampoo or conditioner and (1) Pantene shampoo or conditioner @ $5 = $15
- $3/2 Herbal Essences shampoo or conditioner
- $1.25/1 Pantene
- $5 gift card
= $10.75 out of pocket, plus $5 gift card = $5.75! Like buying 1 and getting 2 free!

If you need body wash and a deodorant..
(2) Olay Body Wash @ $4.99 and (1) Secret Expressions deodorant @ $3.95 = $13.93
- 2 $1.10/1 Olay Body wash coupons
- $1.10/1 Secret deodorant coupon
- $5 gift card
= $10.63 out of pocket, plus $5 gift card = $5.63 total = $1.88 each!

Like I said - you can mix and match these however you like. To maximize your savings, use the highest value coupons, and/or the lowest priced items!

Easy First Shopping Trip -- Secret Deodorant for $1.18 each at Target

This is an easy deal that everyone can do!

Starting tomorrow at Target, Secret deodorant will be part of a $5 gift card deal. When you buy 3, you'll get a $5 gift card.

Here is a break down of the deal and how you can take advantage!

Buy 3 Secret deodorants, $3.95 each

= $3.95 x 3 = $11.85
- 3 x $1.10/1 Secret Outlast, Destinations, or Scent Expressions deodorant, found here. = $3.30
- Get back $5 gift card
Out of Pocket = $8.55
Total Cost = $8.55 - $5 gift card received = $3.55 = $1.18 each, a 70% savings.

Other coupons that can be used..
$1/1 Secret product, included in 6/1's PG coupon insert (this will be great if you can print 2 and get a paper tomorrow!)
$1 off Secret Outlast, Scent Expressions, Destinations or body spray, PG 5/11 (this will be great if you have it from the 5/11 PG insert!)

There you have it! An easy first deal using coupons you can print at home. Remember you can only print two coupons at once - so you may have to ask someone for a coupon, or print from a second computer. If you have a wireless printer and a smartphone, you can download the Coupons.com app, and print from there too!

My take on this kind of deal: This is a good deal, especially for a beginner. But, deals do come around pretty often. The easiest thing to score for free or cheap are personal care products such as shampoo, deodorant, or toothpaste. However, $1.18 is a pretty great deal considering deodorant is regularly $4 each. It's always up to you to judge whether or not you think this deal is worth it for you!

Round 2 of Our Giant Eagle Trip: 5/29/14. How we got $64 worth of products for under $3!

This is the second post detailing our GE trip from 5/29/14. In this post, we'll teach you how to get in and out of the store with everything you need.

To see the deals mentioned in this post and more, visit www.ladysavings.com!

Step 7: Go Shopping! We set out on our trip to save on Thursday and Friday. Our coupons for Brawny and Angel Soft didn't get here until Friday, so we got a few things Thursday.

We began by taking our list and going through the aisles. First we wanted to see what cereals were on sale so we would know if our Cheerios and Trix coupons would work. We found out that the following cereals were included in the 5 for $8: Cheerios, Trix, Cocoa Puffs, and Total.

Next, we went to the salad dressing to choose our 4 Wishbone dressings:

They had plenty of Wishbone in lots of different flavors. We got 2 Italian, one ranch, and one buffalo ranch.

And finally, we went to the baking aisle to choose our 3 Snack Pack flavors. We got 2 chocolate and one chocolate vanilla.

We scanned the aisles to see if they had Brawny or Angel Soft, and our store had some of each. Coupon or not, $10 for 10 is a great deal!

I organized my coupons to make sure I didn't have any extra and that I wasn't missing any. Next, we checked out.

Step 8: Checkout Time. Before coupons, our total was around $25. Then they scan your advantage card, and the "weekly sale prices" take effect (example: Wishbone is usually 2 for $4, but once you scan your advantage card it will come up 2 for $3). Our cashier was nice and we had no problems with our coupons. Our total at the end was… $1.75!

Here's what we got on Thursday! Everything but the Brawny and the Angel Soft:

Our grand total for 5 boxes of cereal, 4 bottles of dressing and 3 packs of pudding was… $1.75!

Step 9: Check your receipt to make sure everything went okay and snap pictures of your receipt for your Shopmium, Ibotta, and Checkout 51 rewards. SavingStar is great because it links to your GE advantage card and the savings come off within a few days. Before you purchase something though, don't forget to click "activate" on the deal so that it will take the savings off. Here's an example of what Savingstar looks like:

It specifies which cereal you can use and it is only good for one box. So, once GE updates their system,  my .50 reward will come through and be credited to my account.

Ibotta is a little different. Here, you can choose the rebate for a certain product and "unlock" your reward. You might have to do things like take a poll, watch a video, or answer a question. Ibotta requires that you take a picture of your receipt to prove you purchased the product. It will then be credited to your account. Once you reach $5, I think you can cash out using PayPal.

Step 10: Bask In Your Glory! We were pretty excited about our shopping trip. We had a friendly cashier which made it very easy and helpful.

The next day.. our coupons had arrived. We knew Brawny and Angel Soft would go fast, so we went to our favorite store to check for it. Our store had plenty of Angel Soft. It's somewhat rude to take 25 of something off a shelf and leave none for others, so we made sure there was still some there after we had taken ours. We also got 8 Brawny paper towels. We split it into two transactions - we each had 12 toilet paper and I had 8 paper towels. Our total ended up being $1.20 each, for the toilet paper. The paper towels were free! Now we have 96 rolls of toilet paper.. which I'm sure we will use eventually. We'll have to go back another day this week to get the other 16 rolls of paper towels!

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask me or leave a comment so that I can help you! :)

Round 1 of Our Giant Eagle Trip: 5/29/14. How we got $64 worth of products for under $3!

Everyone is probably wondering how we purchased 96 rolls of toilet paper for $2.40, and got 8 rolls of paper towels for FREE! In this post, I will outline our most recent Giant Eagle trip in a step-by-step fashion.

To see the deals highlighted in this post and more, visit www.ladysavings.com!

Step 1: Find next week’s ad. Ladysavings.com had the ad posted Sunday or Monday. Because I was away this weekend and pretty busy, I got a chance to look at it Monday.

Step 2: Scan the ad for what’s on sale. I noticed immediately that Angel Soft 4 packs were 10 for $10, and Brawny single rolls were also 10 for $10. General Mills cereal was 5 for $8 (Buy 4 get one free, must buy 4 w/ one free to get that price)! Wishbone dressing is 2 for $3. You will notice that some weeks are great and some are not. In this case, there were 4 major things we wanted this week.

Step 3: Look at your coupons and match them to what is on sale in the ad. I knew right away that I had some good General Mills cereal coupons for Trix, Honey Nut Cheerios, and regular Cheerios. But, not every General Mills cereal is included in the sale. I would have to wait until Thursday morning to see, but I got all of my General Mills coupons out anyways. I also have coupons for Wish Bone, for .70/1, which will double.

Step 4: Check out your apps and the GE Checkout Rewards to see if any other discounts are available! I was happy to see that there were a few rewards I could take advantage of with the sales this week:
- SavingStar App: .50/1 Cheerios (regular kind only), and .50/1 Trix.
- Ibotta App: .75/1 Wishbone dressing

Step 5: Sunday/Monday - Print or order more coupons if needed. With the help of Lady Savings, I found out there was a .45/1 coupon for Angel Soft (12 pack or smaller), and a .55/1 Brawny single roll coupon. Monday, I searched all of my favorite sites for a place to purchase these coupons. I ended up purchasing them from We Clip U Save. Because of the holiday, I was not banking on them to come in right away.

We ordered:
(24) Angel Soft coupons (From the 5/18 Red Plum insert) @ .10 each = $2.40
(24) Brawny coupons (From the 5/18 Red Plum insert) @ .08 each = $1.92
Plus $1 to ship = $5.32.

Now, some people may think "You spent $5.32 on coupons?" But in reality, we planned to purchase a LOT of TP and paper towels! Brawny is usually $1.79/roll. Angel Soft 4 packs are $1.49/roll. With purchasing 24 of each, that would cost $39.36. With purchasing coupons and paying for the products at the store, it would only cost us under $8 for all of that. And I HATE purchasing big packs of toilet paper or paper towels - they are so expensive!

Step 6: Tuesday/Wednesday: Plan out your trip! Here is exactly what we planned to buy, with the coupons that go with it. For the deals that require printable coupons, I'll provide links to coupons.com. You can go there pretty easily and find the coupon, and print it! So that is our break down for this week! Next post will include our actual shopping trip.

How to Save at Giant Eagle: Step by Step Shopping

Here’s a timeline of how I take advantage of the best sales at Giant Eagle.

Step 1: Find next week’s ad. Usually Sunday or Monday, the ads for Thursday become available. You can do a quick Google search to find the ad by typing in, “Giant Eagle Ad 5/29” (or whatever date your sale begins). Lady Savings also posts the ad to her website, Giant Eagle Ad. This is specifically for the upcoming GE ad, which I love.

Step 2: Scan the ad for what’s on sale. Take a peek through the ad. See what catches your eye. Lots of deals are “Buy 1 Get 1 Free,” “2 for $4,” 4 for $8 WYB 4,” etc. If you would like some extra help, check out some fantastic sites such as Lady SavingsKrazy Coupon Lady, or Sisters Shopping on a Shoestring. They will all have fantastic GE deals for you to browse!

Step 3: Look at your coupons and match them to what is on sale in the ad. This is key. This is what the bloggers to do create “match ups.” They’re matching up what’s on sale with the coupons that they have. You may or may not have that coupon. If you do not have that coupon, you can do a coupon database search. My favorite coupon database is Money Saving Mom Coupon Database. There, you can just type in a phrase like “Cheerios” and it will return the coupons available. It's super easy to print out a coupon and have it handy. Also, double check Coupons.com. Although you may have printed some already, more may be available that are either new, or you haven’t printed yet.

What coupons will double? Coupons will double at Giant Eagle up to 99 cents. If a coupon is for $1 off or more, it does not double. Be careful, as some coupons state “do not double” right on them, even if they are less than $1. Giant Eagle's registers automatically double the coupons.

Step 4: Check out your apps and the GE Checkout Rewards to see if any other discounts are available! Apps for your phone such as Ibotta, Checkout 51, Savingstar, and Shopmium offer shoppers additional discounts for certain products. These can be used in addition to a coupon discount, so you are able to double your savings. Scan through the discounts available on your apps, and decide which ones are right for you. Once you purchase these items, you can take a picture of your receipt to submit for the reimbursement from the app. Some people find these worthwhile, others do not. Also, scan the Checkout Rewards section of Giant Eagle’s website to see if any are available for products you plan to purchase.

Step 5: Sunday/Monday - Print or order more coupons if needed. If something is a really great deal, I will purchase more coupons online. You can purchase whole inserts, or a bulk amount of clipped coupons. Inserts are anywhere from $2-3 apiece. For me, it makes more sense to order 10-20 coupons of an item I know I’ll be buying, because there are only 2 of us and we won’t use every single item in the coupon inserts. You can order your coupons through many websites. My favorites are: Kuntry Klippers and Bargain Coupon Clippers. We try to order these at least 3 days in advance (by Monday) so that we have our coupons in time for Thursday! You can generally get 10 of one coupon for $1, sometimes more or less depending on the value of the coupon. Shipping is usually $1, so just make sure you know what you want before you buy it so you aren't placing 2-3 orders and spending a lot of money on shipping. Remember, you can use up to 12 like clipped coupons in one transaction at Giant Eagle. You can use 2 like printed coupons per transaction. If you find that you need a printable coupon, print them from www.coupons.com before its too late.

Step 6: Tuesday/Wednesday - Plan out your trip! I like to know exactly what my total should be before I even check out. I write down my items on a notepad with what coupons I should be using. For example, we’ll buy Cheerios:

CHEERIOS: 4 FOR $8, MUST BUY 4.
4 boxes = $8
Use: (2) .75/1 Cheerios, doubles to $1.50, x 2 coupons = $3
Use: (1) $1/1 General Mills cereal = $1
TOTAL = $4 for 4 boxes.

I do this for each item I plan to buy One of the worst things, in my opinion, is getting there and forgetting what you came for. Also, I like to be organized so I don’t forget anything once I’m there. I gather all of my coupons and put them in either a little plastic baggie or in an envelope. I like to paper clip like coupons so they all stick together. This, along with my list, will make for a smooth shopping trip. Keep in mind that you don’t need to buy something just because it’s on sale. Prioritize what deals are most important to you and go from there. We oftentimes get sidetracked and get excited because something is cheap. Decide for you what is worth it and what isn’t. You’re here to save money, after all. Why waste it on something you may not use?

Step 7: Go shopping! Armed with your coupons and your list, you’re ready to go! On Thursday, or whichever day you choose, head to GE to save. The first thing I can suggest is to have your list out and ready. I almost always get a buggy so that I can rest my purse in the children’s seat up front and put my list right on top. I go from aisle to aisle and check things off my list. Don’t be afraid to add something that you weren’t expecting – but you may have to do some digging through your coupons first. After picking up all of your items, go through your list and make sure you have everything. Go through your coupons and make sure they are all there and you aren't missing any. Put back any items or coupons you won't be using.

Oh no! My store only had 2 of the items I wanted. I had intended to purchase 6. What do I do now? Giant Eagle is great with rain checks. Unless otherwise noted, they should honor the price of the item that you are purchasing. I usually check back once or twice within the sale period, but if they don’t have the item, I’ll grab a rain check. Keep in mind that if you want to purchase something, you can only use 12 clipped coupons at once. However, if you get a rain check for say, 30 items, you must purchase them all at once, even if you don’t buy 30. So if you go back in 2 weeks with a rain check for 30 items, and they only have 10, you can only use your rain check one time. In this case, I usually group my rain checks in 4 or 6. So if I want 12 items, I’ll either get 3 rain checks for 4, or 2 rain checks for 6. This way, if you come back next week and they have some, you can use both rain checks, or one if they don’t have what you need!

Step 8: Checkout Time. Now comes the fun part – the saving. Take all of your items to the front desk for check out. It is twice as hard to use the self checkout unless you have just a few items, and they don't work well with paper coupons. First, have the cashier scan your advantage card. Then they’ll scan all of your items. Don’t be alarmed if the total is high! Next, hand the cashier your coupons, and watch the total go down.

What do I do if people behind me are mad that I’m taking forever? I usually politely let the person behind me know that I may be awhile. If you’re polite, you shouldn’t run into any issues. Sometimes, they love to watch you save just as much as you do, so they’ll want to stick around.

What do I do if the employee is rude and tells me I can’t use a coupon? Carry a copy of the store’s coupon policy with you. Giant Eagle is almost always great about coupon usage, but you should know the rules and follow them. If your coupon is in question, show the employee the item you are purchasing and the fine print. If you still have a discrepancy, you can ask to speak to a manager.

Can I use an expired coupon, or can I photocopy my printed coupons? Don't copy your printed coupons and try to use them. Only use the two per computer that you are allowed. If you have more than one computer, you can print more than two, but never make a photocopy of them. This is considered coupon fraud!

At this point, your items have been scanned as well as your coupons. You most likely owe Giant Eagle at least a little bit of money! Pay for your purchase and check your receipt – you may have some Fuelperks too.

Step 9: Check your receipt to make sure everything went okay and snap pictures of your receipt for your Shopmium, Ibotta, and Checkout 51 rewards. I try to do quick check of my receipt before I walk out of the store, or once I get to the car. Once, we purchased toothpaste on sale for $2.19. We had a $2 off coupon, making the toothpaste just 19 cents. We purchased 20 of these, so it was a lot to keep track of. It turns out 3 or 4 of the toothpastes we had purchased rang up $3.38. This isn’t a huge problem, but it was a $4 or $5 difference. In this case, we had picked up a box marked “30% larger!” that was $3.38. We went inside, and we were able to exchange our toothpaste and get a refund at Guest Services. Giant Eagle’s guest services are great – they are always willing to assist you and talk you through it. If you have any questions, just ask them!  Also double check to see that a checkout reward printed if it was supposed to. Once your receipt is taken care of, if needed, you can snap pictures of your check for your Checkout 51, Shopmium, or Ibotta rebates. These generally link to a PayPal account. It will sometimes take a day or two for those to register, but they will add up over time.

Step 10: Bask in your glory. You had your first successful shopping trip. Pat yourself on the back and have a glass of wine (that’s what I do anyways). Put your feet up and enjoy it! Until the next few days roll around and you have to plan your next trip.

Next, we'll go through our shopping trip this week, step by step!

Giant Eagle Policies

Most of my savings are from Giant Eagle. Giant Eagle makes it easy to save because they offer great discounts such as: Fuelperks, doubling coupons, checkout rewards, and weekly sales.

Here are some basic points about Giant Eagle and using coupons:
  • You can use up to 12 "like" clipped coupons per transaction. These are coupons clipped from the newspaper inserts. These are called manufacturer coupons.
  • You can use up to 2 "like" printed coupons per transaction. These are coupons printed from the website www.coupons.com, or other printable sources. Each computer or device can only print 2 like coupons. These are also manufacturer coupons.
  • Giant Eagle will DOUBLE coupons up to 99 cents. So if you have a coupon for 75 cents off an item, it will double to $1.50 off.
  • The coupon will only double up to the value of the item. If you have an item that is $1 and you have a coupon for 60 cents off (that would double to a dollar), you can only get up to $1 off that item.
  • Giant Eagle awards 10 cents in Fuelperks for each $50 you spend in the store.
  • Giant Eagle's circular ad becomes available Wednesday for sales that start Thursday. However, you can find these ads online usually Sunday or Monday for the upcoming week.
  • GE will offer a rain check for any item that they don't currently have in the store. For example, if you would like 12 boxes of Cheerios that are on sale for $2, you can get a rain check for 12 boxes at the $2 price. These do not expire, but can only be used once. So, if you are worried that they won't have 12 another time, try getting 2 rain checks for 6 boxes.
  • Sometimes, Giant Eagle will have rewards that they call Checkout Rewards. Current checkout rewards being offered can be found here: http://www.gianteagle.com/Save/Checkout-Rewards/. When you purchase the qualifying items, a print out will come out with your receipt entitling you to $X off your next purchase. Just hold onto that receipt and you can use it off of your next shopping trip.
  • You can only use 1 coupon per item. So, if you have a coupon for "$1/2 boxes of Cheerios" and you have 2 boxes, that is the only coupon you can use. You cannot combine that with another coupon for $1 off of 1 box.
  • If a sale lists an item as Buy One Get One Free, you can use a coupon on each item! The register will ring the item up as half off, instead of one as full price and one as free. So, you can purchase only one of the item at half price if you choose. Here is an example: Frozen pizzas are BOGO free. They are $4 regularly. You purchase 2, one is free. They both will ring up as $2. Say you have a coupon for $1 off 1 pizza, and you have 2 of those coupons. You can use both. Instead of your total being $4, your total is now $2. So essentially, you're getting $8 worth of pizza for $2!
  • Giant Eagle will sometimes offer a store coupon. These are coupons specific to the store and can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even greater savings.
Hopefully this covered some basic info regarding Giant Eagle and their coupon policies. For more specific info, see their coupon policy here: http://www.gianteagle.com/About/Policies/#

The best way to save at Giant Eagle is to combine the sale items from the ad with the current coupons you have!

The ultimate guide to matching what is on sale with what you have coupons for is www.ladysavings.com. She is the way that I get my deals, and without her posting all of the match ups, I wouldn't be saving as much as I am!!

Basic Overview!

Hi everyone!

Ever since I started saving with coupons a few months ago, people have been asking me just how I do it. I'm going to outline the basics of couponing so that my family and friends can see how I save, and do the same!

First thing's first - It does take a little bit of researching and planning. You can put as much or as little time into it as you want. The more time you put in, the more prepared you will be and the better sales you will find.

My favorite stores to coupon at are..
Giant Eagle
Target
CVS

On this blog, I'll be posting some of my favorite deals, including breakdowns of my shopping trips so that you can do the same.

My next post will include a beginner's guide to couponing at each store. I'll start with Giant Eagle, as that is where I do most of my saving.
